The rose has opened fully, its layered petals spiralling outward in waves of pale pink, rose and deep burgundy. Thick impasto strokes give each fold a sculptural weight, while the small blue vessel and sunlit ground anchor the flower in a moment of fullness and presence. The third work in the rose cycle, it holds the brief interval when the bloom is at its most generous — before time begins to tell.
