Behind the Stencils: Banksy's First Show in Years

In 2023 Banksy staged 'Cut & Run' in Glasgow — his first official exhibition in 14 years, revealing the actual stencils behind his famous street works.

In summer 2023, the world's most famous anonymous artist did something rare: he opened a museum show. 'Cut & Run' at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art was Banksy's first official exhibition in 14 years.

It pulled back the curtain on his method, displaying the battered, paint-spattered stencils he had used to create some of his best-known street pieces — the actual tools of a clandestine career.

Queues stretched around the block. For an artist who built his fame on walls and secrecy, it was a candid, characteristically cheeky glimpse into how the magic is made.
