Basquiat at Home: 'King Pleasure' Opens in New York

In 2022 Jean-Michel Basquiat's family staged 'King Pleasure', an intimate exhibition of rarely seen works and personal belongings of the late art star.
In 2022, the family of Jean-Michel Basquiat opened 'King Pleasure' in New York — an exhibition curated not by a museum but by his sisters, drawing on more than 200 works and personal items from the family's own collection.
It offered an unusually intimate portrait of the artist who rose from graffiti tags to international fame before dying at just 27 in 1988, his raw, electric canvases now among the most expensive in the world.
Reconstructed rooms from his childhood home and studio placed the legend back in the context of a Brooklyn family. It was Basquiat seen through the eyes of those who knew him best.
