Africa's Great Gathering: The Dakar Biennale

The Dak'Art Biennale returned to Senegal in 2022, reaffirming Dakar as the beating heart of contemporary art across the African continent.

Since 1992, the Dak'Art Biennale in Senegal has been the most important showcase for contemporary art from across Africa and its diaspora. After pandemic delays, it returned in force in 2022.

Across the Senegalese capital, exhibitions, performances and an exuberant fringe spilled into streets, galleries and former palaces, drawing artists and curators from around the world to Dakar.

As global interest in African art surges, the Biennale stands as a vital platform run from the continent itself — setting its own agenda, on its own terms.
