Diego Rivera's Vision of the Americas

Diego Rivera dreamed in murals. The Mexican master painted sweeping walls of history, labour and revolution, fusing pre-Columbian heritage with modern struggle. A major 2022 exhibition, 'Diego Rivera's America', gathered paintings and mural studies to revisit that epic ambition.

Rivera believed art belonged on public walls, not just in private homes — a conviction that made him a giant of 20th-century muralism and a fierce political voice.

Often discussed alongside his wife Frida Kahlo, Rivera here took centre stage as the architect of a grand, humane vision of the Americas and their peoples.
