India's Glamorous New Stage: The NMACC Opens in Mumbai

In 2023 Mumbai welcomed a glittering new landmark: the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, a sprawling complex of theatres and galleries at the heart of the city's Bandra Kurla district.

Backed by India's wealthiest family, it opened with star-studded fanfare and an inaugural art show pairing Indian masters with international names, signalling big ambitions for India's place in the global cultural conversation.

For a country with one of the world's richest artistic heritages but few large private museums, the NMACC marked a statement of intent — Indian culture, presented on a lavish world stage.
