Paris Meets Shanghai: Centre Pompidou x West Bund

In 2019 the Centre Pompidou opened a long-term outpost on Shanghai's West Bund, deepening cultural ties between France and China.

In November 2019, France's Centre Pompidou planted a flag in China, opening a five-year museum partnership on Shanghai's fast-rising West Bund arts district.

The collaboration brought masterpieces of 20th- and 21st-century art from the Pompidou's world-class collection to Chinese audiences, while showcasing Chinese artists in dialogue with them.

Part of a wave of Western institutions building bridges to China's booming art scene, the venture set modern European art beside the Huangpu River in one of the world's most dynamic cities.
