The Complete Raphael Comes to London

The National Gallery's 2022 Raphael exhibition explored the full range of the Renaissance master — not just painter, but architect and designer.
In 2022 the National Gallery in London staged a major exhibition on Raphael that broke with tradition by showing the whole man — not only the supreme painter of Madonnas and portraits, but also the architect, designer and archaeologist.
Drawing loans from around the world, it traced his meteoric, tragically short career, cut off when he died at just 37, mourned as the very image of artistic grace.
Few painters have embodied harmony and beauty so completely. The show let London audiences encounter the full breadth of a Renaissance all-rounder.
