The Stolen Van Gogh Comes Home

More than three years after it was snatched from a Dutch museum, the Van Gogh stolen on the artist's birthday in 2020 was recovered in 2023.
The Van Gogh stolen from the Singer Laren museum on the artist's birthday in March 2020, during the Covid lockdown, had haunted the Dutch art world ever since. In September 2023, it finally resurfaced.
'The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring' was recovered with the help of the celebrated Dutch art detective Arthur Brand, handed over in an IKEA bag, somewhat damaged but intact.
Its return brought a rare happy ending to an art-theft saga — and relief to a small museum that had lost a treasure it never owned, only borrowed.
