Lost in the Light: teamLab Borderless Reopens in Tokyo

The Japanese collective teamLab reopened its boundary-dissolving digital art museum, Borderless, in Tokyo in 2024 to enormous crowds.

Few art experiences are as Instagrammed as teamLab Borderless — a museum with no maps, where digital flowers bloom and dissolve across walls, floors and visitors' own bodies. In February 2024 the Japanese collective reopened it in a new home in Tokyo's Azabudai Hills.

There are no frames and no fixed rooms; artworks wander between spaces and respond to the people moving through them. The previous Borderless had drawn millions and even held a Guinness record as the world's most-visited single-artist museum.

teamLab blurs the line between art, technology and play — and its runaway popularity shows just how hungry audiences are for art they can step inside.
